New to Yoga? Here's What to Expect at Our Studio
Beginner’s Yoga Norwich
Welcome to our yoga studio! Whether you're new to yoga or just to our studio, we're excited you are joining us.
Here’s everything you need to know to feel comfortable and confident as you start your yoga practice.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient science which has its origins in India over 5000 years ago. Patanjali, the great sage, was the first person to codify these ancient practices and beliefs in The Yoga Sutras. The word 'Yoga' is a Sanskrit term meaning to 'yoke' or join or unite.
The practice of Hatha (physical) yoga involving asana (postures) and usually pranayama (breathing techniques) brings about the understanding and mastery of the mind and body and facilitates union between the individual and Divine or Universal consciousness. However, Yoga is not a religion and its practitioners embrace many faiths, beliefs and diverse backgrounds.
Beginners’ Yoga Workshops at Yantra Studio
New to Yoga? Feel like you don’t know where to start and what class to take first? All our classes are ‘beginner friendly’ but we get that stepping onto the yoga mat for the first time can be a bit daunting. We’ve created a regular monthly ‘Beginners Yoga Workshop’ just for you.
Each month one of the regular teachers at Yantra will guide you through a carefully planned guide to yoga, either a deep dive into one of the styles we offer (Hot yoga, Ashtanga, vinyasa flow) or a more general overview of yoga as a practice. Some of the things you will be introduced to in every workshop will include:
Pranayama (Breathing)
There are many different uses of the breath and you will be led through some of the most common practices and given a thorough grounding in why these methods are so effective.
Sequences and Transitions
Some of the classes involve sequences like Sun Salutations or in Vinyasa flow the transitions from downward facing to upward facing dogs. The workshops will break these down and give you some practical tools to make these more accessible.
Posture Clinic
A breakdown of different common yoga poses and some modifications and options for different body types and people with common injuries such as shoulder, knee and lower back issues.
Savasana
Final meditation, rest. All the workshops will include an extended period in final rest to enable you to really integrate and process the information. Enjoy!
