What is Kundalini Yoga?

By guest Blogger Katie Rudland - aka @Bespoke Journey.

When someone asked me 'what is Kundalini yoga? ' I feel I am still gaining clarity but right now for me it is a deepening, intimate relationship with yourself and your body, your organs and your internal world. An opening to yourself. For me, it is deepening my relationships, my commitments, my practice and my devotion. It's the dance, the ways in which you enter and explore yourself and then in turn with others. It's a chance and opportunity to get completely transparent with self. I feel it's a journey or adventure into consciousness. It gives you your awareness, it allows you to take care of your radiance and then your radiance will take care of everything else. I believe the movement of kundalini energy is what wakes us up. It's awakening and circulating energy on a regular basis. A beautiful way to get to know yourself and love yourself deeply. A quote I heard whilst on my training...’Work with your own energy and what you are blessed with will come through”.

I am very passionate about working directly with Kundalini as I am seeing profound shifts in my energy and the inner strength and power I have within myself. The power to be able to stand strong and be with the suffering, to remain open, to feel it all. The more we open and expand ourselves, not only does this open us to feel more pleasure it also opens the capacity to feel the pain. It is surrendering into yourself, a transcending deep dive into the emotional realm. To transmute wounds into wisdom, trauma into tantra and pain into power.

What an adventure, what a life!

I feel Kundalini Yoga differs from other forms of yoga in that its primary goal is not just physical fitness or flexibility, but awakening one's consciousness. It emphasises profound connection helping practitioners access a deeper, truer version of themselves.

The practice I share comes from the teachings of the Aquarian Age, encouraging self-awareness, resilience, and community—qualities that can be deeply beneficial in today’s fast-paced and often stressful world.

As within, so without.

Katie teaches in Norwich and beyond and is running a 6 week Kundalini Yoga course at Yantra Studio. Thursdays 12.30-2pm. Booking through Katie
